The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors, on a 5-0 vote yesterday, directed staff to bring back ordinances that will legalize movable tiny homes as:

  • ADUs (accessory dwelling units)

  • Single-Family Lots

  • Tiny Home Villages/Planned Unit Developments (PUDs)

Needs at least 3.5 million new homes by 2025 to meet current demand

*Senate Bills 9 and 10 went into effect on Jan. 1, 2022 allowing for more development opportunities throughout the county. SB 9 allows for up to four units on single-family lots - SB 10 allows cities and counties to approve up to 10-unit buildings on single-family lots.
